Storytelling as Citizen Curation in the SPICE Project: the Role of Emotions and Values to Promote Inclusion
In cultural heritage, communication and dissemination are typically conveyed by textual media, following a tradition that dates back to the classical age. Text, however, might not be fully accessible to all audiences; today, its use can take advantage by new media practices and languages. This seminar will reflect on the use of emotions as a universal language in the EU project SPICE (Social Participation and Inclusion through Cultural Engagement, 2020-2023), where scholars and museums have designed and tested a socio-technical framework for Citizen Curation aimed at favoring perspective-taking between individuals and groups through the sharing of personal interpretations of cultural artefacts. In particular, the case study carried out at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GAM) in Turin, developed in collaboration with the Turin Institute for the Deaf, will be described, with a focus on the expression of emotions and values.
