Course overview

The Master's degree programme in Transmediterranean Studies: Migration, Cooperation and Development (TRANS-MED) aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the contemporary Mediterranean world and the interactions between its member countries. Through the central themes of migration, cooperation and development, the course offers an innovative perspective on the Mediterranean as an interface between Africa, Asia and Europe and as a critical lens for interpreting current political, social and cultural processes of global significance. With an interdisciplinary approach that intersects the fields of sociology, geography, history and law, the course provides theoretical and methodological skills related to the study of migration and political and cultural relations in the Mediterranean area. In addition, expertise is provided in qualitative research and data analysis, as well as knowledge of languages.

The aim of the Master's Degree programme in Trans-Mediterranean Studies: Migration, Cooperation and Development (TRANS-MED) is to train a new generation of Mediterranean specialists who are able to mediate among contents, practices and ideas and who are capable of establishing connections and networks between academic and non-academic actors (national and international political institutions, economic actors, journalists). Through the development of a critical knowledge of Mediterranean issues, the course will also shape experts inmcommunication, cooperation, intercultural mediation and socio-political issues.

Examination assessment and graduation

Course activity includes face-to-face lessons, laboratories and workshops during the two-year course. The final internship is compulsory and allows you to acquire extensive skills that can be applied in the workplace.
Throughout university the knowledge learned by the student will be verified through written and oral exams.

The final assessment consists of a written paper, written in Italian, French or English. The supervisor is a professor of TRANS-MED and the subject is decided with the supervisor at the beginning of the internship period.
