Enrolment

Which steps do I need to take to enrol in an Advanced Course?

When the registration procedure will be open, you will find the enrolment link via Esse3 at the bottom of each Advanced Course web page. Please, follow the procedure, insert the information required, and wait for the Enrolment Unit to conclude your enrolment. 

What is the enrolment duration?

The enrolment lasts one academic year. 

How much does an Advanced Course cost?

  • Advanced Courses are free of charge for all Ca’ Foscari postgraduate and Phd students. Further enrolments will be subject to payment.
  • Postgraduate students who are attending another University, Academy or Conservatory are entitled to a reduced contribution as indicated in the web page of each Advanced Course (read the following FAQ carefully for more detailed information on the reduced contribution).
  • External users who are not attending any postgraduate degrees at Ca’ Foscari nor in other Universities can also attend our Advanced Courses with a charge of enrolment, as indicated in the web page of each Advanced Course.

I am currently enrolled at another University. What should I do to have access to a reduced contribution?

After completing the enrolment procedure in the Advanced Course, do not proceed with the payment. Open a ticket to the Enrolment Department through the link at the bottom of this page. You will be contacted and given information on how to have access to a reduced contribution.

I am an undergraduate student: can I enrol in an Advanced Course?

No, you cannot: a Bachelor’s degree is required.

Are Advanced Courses free of charge for Ca’ Foscari students who are about to graduate?

Yes: Advanced Courses can be taken for free if students are up to date with their payments for the current academic year.

If I enrol as a graduating student, can I finish the Advanced Course after the graduation?

If you have included the Advanced Course Activity in your study plan, you must complete it before graduating. If you have enrolled in the Advanced Course, but have not included it in your study plan, you can complete it even after obtaining the degree.

Can I attend two Advanced Courses during the same academic year?

Yes, you can. The first Advanced Course is free of charge for all Ca’ Foscari postgraduate or PhD students. In order to enrol to further Advanced Courses, you will have to pay the enrolment fee. 

External users can similarly attend two Advanced Course at the same time. It is important, however, to wait for the first enrolment to be completed before proceeding with the second one.

I just enrolled in an Advanced Course and in my personal area I can see only the Advanced Course career, while the Master’s Degree career has disappeared. What should I do?

Nothing: it is a display error that resolves automatically in 24 hours.

I have submitted the enrolment application, but I am still pre-enrolled: is it normal?

Yes: you must first complete the pre-enrolment application. Once the enrolment period is over, the Enrolment Sector will formalise the registrations.

How do I know if the Advanced Course I signed up for will be activated?

At the end of the enrolment period, if the Advanced Course is activated, you will receive confirmation of enrolment; however, if the Advanced Course is not activated, we will notify you via email.

Is it possible to withdraw?

You can submit the application for withdrawal of the Advanced Course in which you have enrolled by attaching the tax stamp purchased online to the withdrawal form. Following a withdrawal, subsequent enrolment for an Advanced Course will be subject to a fee.

What should I do to withdraw?

To proceed with the waiver, fill out the withdrawal form.

Courses

Can I include an Advanced Course in my study plan? Can I get ECTs recognition? 

Yes, 12 ECTs of the Advanced Course can be recognised in the elective course section of your Master’s degree.

Can I include an Advanced Course single module into my study plan?

No, you cannot. You must enrol to the entire Advance Course: you cannot choose single modules.

When do Advanced Courses start?

Advanced Courses are scheduled according to the Ca' Foscari academic calendar. Some Advanced Courses are held during the summer period (June/July). Generally, Advanced courses can either follow terms or semesters, depending on the Department that delivers the course.

Is attendance mandatory or is there a minimum percentage of attendance?

Attendance is mandatory only in some Advanced Courses, however attendance is always strongly recommended. Refer to the Attendance and exams section on the page of the Advanced Course you are interested in.

How many hours of classes does one course include?

Each course of an Advanced Course includes 30 hours of classes.

Exams

How many exam sessions are there for each Advanced Course?

There are four exam sessions for each Advanced Course. You will not be allowed to complete the Advanced Course the following academic year. The last exam session available to complete the Advanced Course is in January.

When can I take the Advanced Course exams?

Advanced Course exams regularly follow the academic calendar and can be taken over terms or semesters, depending on the Department that delivers the Advanced Course. The first exam session for Advanced Courses that are held over the summer period is usually late July.

Do final marks of the Advanced Course exams affect the academic average of my Master’s Degree?

No. If you included the Advanced Course in your Master’s degree study plan, only the ECTs planned will be recognised.

Study plan and ECTs

How can I include the Advanced Course in the elective exams of my study plan? 

You have to include the Advanced Course Activity 12 ECTs [H00000] in the elective exams of your study plan.

Do I have to follow a specific procedure for the ECTs recognition in my study plan?  

No, you don’t. Once you complete the Advanced Course, the administration will validate the Advanced Course Activity in your study plan. If you are about to graduate and the Advanced Course is still not validated, open a ticket.

I am interested in attending an Advanced Course of the summer term but I haven’t included the Advanced Course Activity in the elective section of my study plan and now I can’t edit it anymore. Can I still attend the lesson and take the exams of the Advanced Course?

Yes, you can still enrol in a summer period Advanced Course, attend the lessons and take the exams. However, as soon as the study plan becomes editable again, you have to include the Advanced Course activity in order to get the ECTs recognition.

Certificates

What certificates will I receive once I conclude an Advanced Course? What should I do?

You can download certificates of the exams you have taken as well as a certificate of the Advanced Course you have concluded from your Personal Area (Advanced Course) > “Certificates, Modules and Questionnaires”.
If you complete the Advanced Course, you will also receive an Open Badge.

What is an Open Badge?

An Open Badge is a digital certificate that attests the knowledge, abilities and skills that you have developed attending a Minor programme. It is internationally recognised and can be included in your digital curriculum, as well as on Social Network profiles. Please, read more information about Ca’ Foscari Open Badges.

What should I do to get my Open Badge?

You will be eligible to receive an Open Badge only if you complete the entire Advanced Course. In this case, you will automatically receive an e-mail with your personal Open Badge within the year in which you concluded your Advanced Course.
