Research topics

Luminescent coordination compounds

The research concerns the synthesis of photoluminescent coordination com- pounds with suitable metal centres. In particular, derivatives of divalent and trivalent lanthanide ions, complexes of copper(I) and manganese(II) and d/f heteropolymetallic compounds are deeply investigated. The luminescent species are used as dopants for the preparation of plastic materials with optical properties. The experimental characterizations are supported by computational modelling based on DFT theory.

Phosphorus-based compounds as flame retardants

The research is developed in collaboration with AIMPLAS - Instituto Tecnológico del Plástico, Valencia, Spain). The study concerns new sustainable synthetic approaches for the prepa- ration of phosphorus-containing com- pounds suitable as flame retardants for plastic materials. The investigation is extended to the possible application of the compounds as luminescent tracers.
