Towards a new Silk Route: first step in Kazakhstan

The project “A Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI) was created in 2013 by the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to give a new life to the ancient Silk Route. After five years the New Silk Road is emerging with two main routes: a land route across Europe to China, and a maritime route from Eastern and Southern Asia to the Mediterranean Sea across the Suez canal - where Italy is the last Mediterranea step to get to Northern Europe.

The project aims at connecting Asia to Europe through Central Asia, Middle East and Africa, with new routes which were created thanks to the economic collaboration between China and the countries included in these routes in order to significantly contribute to global growth. Ca’ Foscari will organize a focus on Kazakhstan, one of the 65 countries participating to the project.

On January 8th 2018 at 4.30pm in the Aula Baratto, the country from which this New Silk Road will start will be explored with exceptional guests such as Stefano Ravagnan, Italian ambassador in Kazakhstan, Galym Mutanov, Rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, and Tolkyn Abildayeva,  Head of Foreign Literature Department at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan Astana.

The meeting will start with a welcome address from Michele Bugliesi, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and Tiziana Lippiello, Vice Rector for International Relations.
