Meeting with Nobel Prize holder Gao Xingjian

The Department of Asian and North African Studies, the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies (French studies section) and the Alliance Française welcome Gao Xingjian, a French-Chinese author and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2000.
The author will meet with the Venetian public to explain his nature as a novelist, playwright, poet and painter.
French actress and writer Anny Romand will be moderating the meeting.
Some of Gao Xingjian’s texts, drawn from the play La Quêteur de la mort and the novel La Montagne de l'âme, and some poems will be read in French, Chinese and Italian.

This will be followed by the screening of the film Le deuil de la beauté by Gao Xingjian (France, 120') in its original version.

Anny Romand
Directed by directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Manoel de Oliveira, Françoise Romand, and Jean-Jacques Beineix, Anny Romand is also an actress for television and theater where she acted in plays by Molière, Marguerite Duras, Claude Roy, Euripides. She personified the figure of Persephone in the opera by Stravinsky, conducted by Alexander Lazarev in Amsterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 2006 she created the project Une Saison de Nobel, a series of evenings devoted to Nobel Prizes for literature, which she continues to coordinate.
