Cybersecurity: first Italian conference at Ca' Foscari

Ca’ Foscari University will host the first Italian conference on cybersecurity that will take place from the 17th – 20th of January 2017 at San Giobbe. Born within the National Cybersecurity Laboratory of the National Inter-University Consortium for Informatics, the conference aims to bring together the academic, industrial components and governmental sectors. The ITASEC17 conference will be multidisciplinary, annual and itinerant and will range from technology to the economy, sociology, politics, law.

Among the topics that will be covered: national cyber defense, national and European policy, public-private partnerships, protection of critical infrastructure, web intelligence, malware analysis, attack detection.

Speakers include, among others, Pier Paolo Baretta, undersecretary at the Ministry of Economics and Finance, Domenico Rossi, State Secretary for the Ministry of Defense, Paolo Ciocca, Deputy Director of the Information Security System for the Italian Republic.

The conference will be multidisciplinary, annual and itinerant and will range from technology to the economy, sociology, politics and law.

In Venice, free entry and held in the Stakeholder Space, international guests will take turns in the Aula Magna Cazzavillan. Among them, Matthew Barrett of NIST USA, Andrea Servida (EU DG Connect), Luigi Rebuffi (ECSO) and Harry Perper (National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, MITRE).

Several private and public organizations will take part in the conference: Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, TrendMicro, Palo Alto Networks, Leonardo, Blu5, Check Point, Saiv, RSA, Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture, Hermes Bay, Blu5, Confindustria, Enel, Associazione Esperti Infrastrutture Critiche, Enisa, Sogei, CERT Nazionale (MiSE) and CNR.

Three main areas will alternate between each other at the Technical / Scientific Space: a Scientific Track on cybersecurity, a Demo Track targeted for innovative tools developed by industry, research centers, and universities and a Fil-Rouge Track comprising of a series of multidisciplinary sessions on 'hot topics' of information security. All in all, more than sixty presentations selected from over forty universities and major Italian research centers.

The selection committee was led by professors Riccardo Focardi, of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Alessandro Armando of the University of Genoa and Roberto Baldoni, director of the National Cybersecurity Laboratory of CINI and professor at the La Sapienza University of Rome. More than 60 international academics and researchers have been a part of the committee, from more than forty universities and research centers.
