Ca’ Foscari will open the doors of research to the general public: Venetonight, the Night of the researchers, is back at Ca’ Foscari as well as at the University of Padoa, the university of Verona and the National Institute of Astrophysics - Astronomic Observatory in Padoa.
This edition will set a record with 70 programmed activities. There will be additional events on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th September, as a preview of the main day, September 29th. On Wednesday the Venetian District for Research and Innovation organizes an Innovation coffee at Ca’ Rezzonico - the Museum of 18th century Venice on digital strategies in museum. On Thursday the Venice Climate Days will open with a show on Anthropocene.

The ‘night’ will be officially opened at 5pm on Friday 29th with the rector Michele Bugliesi. The night will close with the concert “Addio a Ulisse”, musical trip with Giovanni Dell’Olivo and the collective Lagunario inspired by Mauro Moretti’s theater work and images.
The public will mainly exchange with researchers about climate change, environment, technologies and culture, through accessible activities and presentations. The entire city of Venice will take part: 16 locations besides Ca’ Foscari will host activities. The 2017 edition will also implement a strong synergy between Ca’ Foscari researchers and Venetian museums.
Venetonight is a unique occasion to discover the activities and achievement of the most innovative research between labs, shows, activities for kids, guided tours, exhibitions, games and much more-

Researchers in museums
Thanks to the collaboration between Ca’ Foscari and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, the public of Venetonight will be able to discover little-known pieces and history told by the researchers. “Marie Curie” fellows, young researchers awarded with the prestigious European fund, will be exceptional guides at Ca’ Pesaro, Ca’ Rezzonico, Carlo Goldoni’s House, Museo Correr and, in cooperation with the MiBACT, the Natural History Museum.
In the Natural History Museum, the results of a research on solar radiation on tourists in Venice will be presented and an expert will show the visitors a collection of insect usually only accessible to researchers.
Special guided tours will explore the National Archives, the Scuola Grande di San Marco and the Doge’s Palace, Ca’ Cappello and a Great War itinerary in Venice.
Everything on climate changes
Events dedicated to climate changes will start the evening before Venetonight, on Thursday September 28th, with a conference show on Anthropocene. On stage at Ca’ Foscari Zattere Frank Raes who is dedicated to his passion for scientific dissemination after a career as a top-level European researcher, will tell the past and the future of humanity since human beings have started changing its environment. This initiative is among those organized by Venice Climate Lab, a group of young researchers in the field of climate changes.
On Friday 29th from 9am to noon they will talk to passers-by in Campo Santa Margherita about climate change. There will be a public debate and a collective photography exhibition in the courtyard of Ca’ Foscari. The ICCG organizes the event “The impact of climate change in Italy. Photographies from the present to understand the future” in CFZ.
Activities for kids and teens
Kids will be able to dig like archaeologists, wear the clothes of ancient warriors or become small digital investigators exploring financial transactions. They will be able to time travel and discover the ancient lives in Altino, the Pharoes in Egypt, Babylonian spells. Finally they will be able to feel like young European citizens thanks to the activities offered by the Europe Direct of the City of Venice.
After the great success of the previous years, this edition will include preparing molecular icecream. Researchers will explain the main features of molecular cooking and the scientific research in chemical and physical processes that occur when preparing such food and will prepare a tasty molecular icecream.
One to one with researchers
Can’t be missed the lagoon visit with a boat of the Sestante association and explanations of ecologists from Ca’ Foscari who will speak about DNA, chemical senses, microorganisms, biomagnetism.
Economics and society will not be forgotten with laboratories on online disinformation, banks and finance, surveys and leadership. Young researchers will present their own research on tourism in Venice and on foreigners’ living in Italy without speaking Italian. As well as Ottoman music, sign language, religion studies against stereotypes and the history of Venice re-written with the recent archaeological discoveries in Torcello (the latter in collaboration with the City of Venice).
