Venice among winning cities of the New European Bauhaus

Venice is among the winning cities of the New European Bauhaus project of the European Union, in which creativity is used to promote sustainability, beauty, and inclusion. 

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice participated in the call along with 17 partners — including Técnico - U. Lisbon as a coordinator, universities from Sweden and the Netherlands, the Cities of Lisbon, Venice and Genoa, IUAV University, the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority, and Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. A multidisciplinary team of researchers worked on the project proposal, interpreting the objectives of the New European Bauhaus according to the perspectives of European coastal cities. The project was selected and awarded 5 million euros by the European Commission.

In the city of Venice, the project focuses on the areas of San Basilio and Santa Marta, proposing urban regeneration through a sustainable innovation approach. The proposal involves intervention for the regeneration of this area and to reconnect the city to the port, improve residential quality, attract new citizens and activities. Ca’ Foscari’s team — which includes experts in the fields of sustainability, social inclusion, interactive technologies, economics and management — will design the pilot project over the next few months.
