Final Dissertation Guidelines
The teacher supervises bachelor's and master's degree theses focused on:
  • Byzantine philology (text editions and translations)
  • Byzantine literature
  • The social and religious history of the Byzantine Empire

Prerequisites

Students wishing to write their dissertation on the Byzantine world must:
  • Have knowledge of Classical Greek, or
  • Have attended the two introductory courses in the Greek language

Supervision Process

The teacher personally guides students through:
  • Face-to-face meetings to introduce research work
  • Discussions on thesis structure
  • Corrections of submitted partial essays

Planning and Deadlines

Students must carefully plan:
  1. Research work
  2. Meeting schedules with the supervisor
  3. Time for writing and corrections
The final dissertation must be completed at least 30 days before the official "uploading period." This allows time for:
  • The supervisor to read and correct the dissertation
  • The student to revise and finalize the work

Word Limits

  • BA Thesis: 15,000 – 20,000 words
  • MA Thesis: 20,000 – 25,000 words
Students are encouraged to start early and communicate regularly with their supervisor.
