Antonio Rigo is Full Professor of Byzantine Philology and History of Byzantine Christianity at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice. Born in Treviso, after undergraduate university studies in Venice, and a doctorate in Bologna and post-doctoral scholarships in Naples and Venice, he was appointed Full Professor of Byzantine History at the University of Basilicata (1994-2001) and, from 2001, at the Ca’ Foscari University . His research deal with the literature and religious history of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods, and in particular with the ascetic-spiritual texts, heretical and dissident movements and theological controversies of the 14th century.
