Katia Barbaresco ha ottenuto il titolo di dottoressa di ricerca in letteratura greca presso l’Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia con un progetto sulla morte di Achille nei Posthomerica di Quinto Smirneo (commento a PH 3). Nel corso della sua formazione ha trascorso vari periodi di ricerca presso alcune università inglesi (nel 2017 presso l'università di Reading, tra il 2019 e il 2020 presso il King's College London, sotto la guida del dr. Pavlos Avlamis e del prof. Michael Trapp). I suoi interessi di ricerca sono rivolti soprattutto all’epica greca arcaica, ellenistica e imperiale, con un focus sulla dizione epica, sulla rappresentazione delle divinità nell'epica e sulla persis di Troia.
Nelle sue pubblicazioni ha analizzato le differenze tra la composizione orale e scritta partendo dal motivo del sangue che intride la terra e da quello della terra e dell’acqua ostruite dai corpi dei guerrieri (Lexis 2019), come anche gli sconfinamenti di genere in battaglia e nella persis di una città (Polygraphia 2021), i codici dei duelli epici e le loro violazioni (Brixen 2021). Per il volume Writing Homer Under Rome: Quintus of Smyrna In and Beyond the Second Sophistic (Edinburgh University Press, a c. di S. Bär, L. Ozbek ed E. Greensmith) ha scritto un capitolo che esamina le modalità usate da Quinto Smirneo per depotenziare gli dei dell’Olimpo nei Posthomerica. Ha curato, insieme ad Alberto Camerotto e a Valeria Melis, il volume Il grido di Andromaca. Voci di donne contro la guerra (Vittorio Veneto 2022).
È membro del gruppo di ricerca di Aletheia e collabora con il progetto Classici Contro. Da aprile 2020 a dicembre 2021 è stata presidente della Consulta dei dottorandi di Ca' Foscari e ha partecipato alle riunioni del Senato Accademico come uditrice con diritto di parola. È stata membro del board EUTOPIA European University. È membro del Comitato di indirizzo del corso di laurea in Scienze dell'Antichità. È docente dei corsi abilitanti per la cdc A013 tenuti da Fondazione Ca' Foscari.

Katia Barbaresco obtained her PhD in Ancient Heritage Studies at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. She spent part of her academic education in the UK (2017 at the University of Reading, 2019-2020 at King’s College London). Her PhD project is a commentary to the third logos of Quintus Smyrnaeus’ Posthomerica, with a focus on the death and funerals of Achilles. Her main research area of interest lies in Greek epic poetry from its oral origins to the Imperial poems. She is a member of the Aletheia research group of Ca’ Foscari and collaborates with the project "Classici Contro". From April 2020 to December 2021 she was the president of the PhD students' Council of Ca' Foscari and a member of EUTOPIA European University's board.
