Marianna Zannoni si è laureata in Scienze e tecniche del Teatro presso l'Università IUAV con una tesi sull'attrice Eleonora Duse, premiata dal Comitato regionale per le celebrazioni dei 150 anni dalla nascita dell'attrice (1858-2008). Ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Storia delle Arti presso l'Università Ca' Foscari - IUAV - Università degli Studi di Verona. La tesi dottorale è stata seguita dai proff. Carmelo Alberti e Italo Zannier.
Nell'acco accademico 2016-2017 è stata assegnista di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Filosofia e Beni Culturali dell'Università Ca' Foscari.
Ha seguito il Corso di Conservazione e Restauro della Fotografia, promosso dalla Fratelli Alinari. Fondazione per la Storia della Fotografia e dall' Alta Scuola di Formazione dell'Opificio delle Pietre Dure di Firenze e si è prefezionata nella catalogazione dei beni fotografici seguendo il Corso “Archivi e Beni fotografici: conservazione, catalogazione, valorizzazione” promosso dalla Regione del Veneto in collaborazione con l'Università Ca' Foscari.
Dal 2010 lavora presso l'Istituto per il Teatro e il Melodramma della Fondazione Giorgio Cini in qualità di conservatrice degli archivi e coordinatrice scientifica delle attività. Per la Fondazione Giorgio Cini ha ideato e curato, in collaborazione con la direttrice dell'Istituto Maria Ida Biggi, il progetto della Stanza di Eleonora Duse, un luogo dedicato alla memoria della grande attrice italiana.
Per il Teatro La Fenice ha curato l’esposizione permanente dedicata a Maria Callas, occupandosi delle ricerche preliminari, dell'allestimento e dei supporti di comunicazione. Negli anni ha lavorato nel team di ricerca e nell'organizzazione logistica di diverse mostre, tra le quali si ricordano Il viaggio di Eleonora Duse intorno al mondo (Roma, Complesso del Vittoriano e Firenze, Teatro La Pergola) inserita nel programma ufficiale delle Celebrazioni del 150° Anniversario dell’Unità d’Italia.
E' stata membro del Comitato d'indirizzo del Teatro degli Impavidi di Sarzana e dal 2021 è membro del Comitato nazionale per le celebrazioni del centenario della nascita di Mischa Scandella (1921-2021).
Nel 2008 ha vinto il Bando di tirocinio promosso dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri (MAE) e dalla Conferenza dei Rettori della Università italiane (CRUI) e svolto un periodo di collaborazione presso l'Istituto italiano di cultura di Parigi.
Si occupa principalmente di storia dell’attore, fotografia teatrale otto-novecentesca e archivi di artista ha partecipato a numerosi convegni nazionali e internazionali sul tema. Tra le sue ultime pubblicazioni «Forse tu sola hai compreso». Lettere di Eleonora Duse a Emma Lodomez Garzes (Marsilio 2021), Il teatro in fotografia. L’immagine della prima attrice italiana tra Otto e Novecento (Titivillus 2018) e Il Teatro di Lyda Borelli (con M.I. Biggi, Alinari 2017).
