ISEED Final Conference - Fostering Participation in Science and Democracy

The Horizon 2020 research project Inclusive Science and European Democracies ISEED is thrilled to announce its final conference. We are meeting in Brussels, at the NTNU Brussels office, for a culmination of our groundbreaking research and innovative findings.

The meeting will spotlight the project’s outputs and open the floor for discussion, including proposals and recommendations that have evolved from our diverse research efforts. This event is a fantastic opportunity to review our accomplishments, consider their practical applications, and share insights with a wider audience beyond our project’s consortium.

The meeting will include public presentations of ISEED research and results, interactive discussion and a presentation of our case studies in a poster session.

THE PROGRAM

Day 1 – 11.06.2024: Unveiling the Vision 

ISEED: Mission, Objectives, Outputs, and Conference Aims
2.45 – 3.30 CET  (accessible online) - Kick off the conference with an inspiring introduction by our project coordinator, who will present the evolution of deliberative participation through the ISEED project. Discover how our findings and outputs aim to enrich democratic life. Get ready for an exciting overview of what’s in store! 

Citizen Participation in ISEED: From Science to Democracy
4.00 – 5.00 CET (accessible online) - Join the ISEED coordinator, as they reveal the ultimate vision of democratic citizen participation. Learn how fostering citizen and community-based science can spark engaged citizenship, benefiting both scientific practice and society. 

Day 2 – 12.06.2024: Diving into Research and Innovation

Empirical Research Showcase: Poster Display and Discussion
9.30-10.30 CET (in person only) - Explore the heart of our project through a vibrant poster display, featuring eight visually engaging summaries of our empirical research and case study. Meet the coordinator behind each case study, ready to answer your questions and share insights. 

Online Deliberation: Meet the ‘Argument Extractor’ and Explore Online Participation
11.00 – 12.30 CET (accessible online) - Dive into the digital realm with our innovative ‘argument extractor’ tool. Discover how this cutting-edge technology analyzes online discussions on science-based topics, unveiling the prospects and challenges of online deliberation. Experience live demonstrations and explore other digital analysis techniques developed by our project. 

Promoting Deliberative Participation: Policy Briefing and Recommendations
2.00 – 3.00 CET (accessible online) - Engage in a thought-provoking session on fostering deliberative participation. Our experts present actionable recommendations on rethinking the governance of science within citizen science, making citizen science a cornerstone of research practices, designing projects to cultivate democratically engaged citizens and encouraging institutions to enhance public deliberation skills while embracing diversity. 

Interactive Panel Discussion
3.30 – 5.00 CET (in person only) - Join a dynamic panel discussion with members of our Advisory Board and the audience. Delve into the challenges and opportunities of embedding ‘engaged citizenship’ in democratic life, considering the diverse socio-political landscape of Europe. Share your perspectives and be part of the conversation shaping the future of democratic participation.
