Abstract
This study explores how organizational design adapts to performance feedback, focusing on turnover, team composition, and shared experience within the dynamic context of the Venice Historical Regatta. Using the behavioral theory of the firm, we analyze how problemistic search mechanisms drive structural adjustments in response to performance deviations. Drawing on archival data from 1950 to 2023, we find that teams underperforming relative to aspiration levels exhibit higher turnover and prioritize recruits with shared experience to enhance cohesion and recover performance. In contrast, teams meeting aspirations maintain stability, minimizing turnover to preserve dynamics. These findings highlight the trade-offs between stability and adaptation, contributing to strategic management literature by shedding light on the role of relational dynamics in performance-driven organizational adjustments.
