"The cooling solution" continues its journey in London and Trani

London - Trani

The Cooling Solution
After successful instalments in Venice in 2023 and New York City in 2024, The Cooling Solution lands in London in September 2024 at the Italian Cultural Institute of London.

The Cooling Solution is a scientific project that uses photography to investigate how people of different socioeconomic backgrounds around the world adapt to high temperatures and humidity in the context of climate change. It combines scientific results with personal stories, offering a visual journey through people’s lived experiences of ineffective and inefficient cooling, hypercooling, heat dumping, vernacular architecture, and cutting-edge cooling technologies in Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Italy.

Photography by Gaia Squarci, research by the ENERGYA team at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, led by prof. Enrica De Cian, Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Fondazione CMCC, curatorship by Kublaiklan, project coordination by Elementsix.

Photographic exhibition in London from September 2 till October 2, 2024. The Italian Cultural Institute of London, 39 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8NX.

Gaia Squarci is a photographer and videomaker who divides her time between Milan and New York, where she teaches Digital Storytelling at the International Center of Photography. In Trani she will present The Cooling Solution, a photographic journey that, born as a scientific popularization of a 5-year research project at Ca' Foscari University Venice, investigates how people from different socio-economic backgrounds around the world adapt to rising temperatures and humidity. Leading the project is Professor Enrica De Cian, professor of environmental economics at Ca' Foscari University Venice and a researcher at the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change Foundation and the European Institute of Economics and the Environment.
