The double degree programme jointly designed by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Université Bordeaux Montaigne, offers students the possibility to pursue an international study path, attending courses of their 2nd year at the partner University, achieving, at the end of the programme, two academic qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Philosophical Sciences from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice;
  • Master Mention Philosophie - “Recherches philosophiques sur la nature, l’homme et la société” path from Université Bordeaux Montaigne.

Admission requirements

The programme is reserved to students enrolled in the master’s degree in Philosophical Sciences at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

To participate in the programme, candidates must apply during their 1st year of enrolment and must prove at least a B2 level proficiency in French language, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). An official certification is not required, but the language proficiency will be assessed during the selection interview.

For further details regarding the programme's admission requirements, please refer to the dedicated datasheet in Annex A of the Call for applications.

Application and selection

Students can apply for the programme following the procedures and deadlines outlined in the Call for applications and its annexes, which are published annually.

The results of the selection process are published on this webpage, according to the timelines specified in Annex A of the Call.

Calls and forms

Programme and study plan

Selected students must achieve at Ca’ Foscari at least 60 ECTS, with a strong recommendation to achieve at least 12 ECTS through interdisciplinary courses, envisaged by their study plan for the 1st year of the master’s degree in Philosophical Sciences, within the last exam session prior to departure.

Selected students will spend one academic year at the partner University during their 2nd year, during which they must complete exams for at least 30 ECTS and begin working on their thesis.

Students are required to submit a Learning Agreement listing the academic activities to be carried out abroad, which must be approved by the programme coordinators at both Universities and will be recognized in their study plan upon completion of the mobility period.

For more information about the programme and its study plan, please contact the Department’s Educational Programmes office: didattica.fbc@unive.it.

Tuition fees and mobility grant

Selected students are required to pay tuition fees to Ca' Foscari for the entire duration of the programme and will benefit from total exemption from the payment of tuition fees at the partner University.

For the mobility period, students will benefit from a mobility grant with a variable amount, as defined annually in the Calls for Applications.

Mobility procedures

Before departing for the mobility, selected students will be required to:

  • complete the registration/application procedure at the receiving institution according to the methods and within the deadlines set by the Partner University;
  • sign the grant agreement that regulates the disbursement of the mobility grant;
  • fill out the Learning Agreement, listing all the educational activities to be carried out at the Partner University and identifying the equivalences with the courses included in the Ca' Foscari study plan, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Further information will be provided by the Welcome Unit (International Office) upon completion of the selection process and after formal acceptance of the offer.

After reaching the destination, students will have to get the confirmation of arrival form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual start date of the mobility period (orientation/welcome activities or educational activities).

If the students intend to make changes to the study plan agreed upon before departure, it is possible to complete a Learning Agreement variation form, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Before returning from the mobility, students will have to get the confirmation of departure form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual end date of the mobility period.

As soon as available, students must send to the Welcome Unit (International Office) the Transcript of records issued by the Host University, i.e. the certificate listing all the exams they passed during the mobility abroad.

The exams reported in the Transcript of records must correspond to those agreed upon in the Learning Agreement and any subsequent variation forms.

Graduation

The thesis work will be written according to the procedures established at the Home University. Writing, submission and defense methods (number of pages, formatting guidelines, and language of discussion) will be jointly defined in agreement with the academic coordinators of both Universities.

In any case, the defense will take place in front of a joint Committee. Students are invited to contact the academic coordinator of the agreement at Ca’ Foscari, Prof. Caterina Tarlazzi, well in advance to clarify all necessary aspects.

Students will graduate in Venice during the Summer or Fall graduation session of the second year, following the procedures and meeting the deadlines indicated on the relevant webpage: Thesis and final degree exam | Deadlines, admission and procedures.

If they are unable to complete the programme by the Fall graduation session, students must promptly inform the Welcome Unit, which will notify the partner University. In this case, administrative re-enrollment at Bordeaux for the third year will be required.

Once the Italian degree has been awarded, students must inform the Welcome Unit, which will send the necessary documentation to the partner University to initiate the process of issuing the host institution’sdiploma.

Both diplomas will be legally recognized in their respective countries of issuance.

A bonus point will be added to the final exam grade for students who participated in a double or joint degree programme. More information is available at the following webpage: Characteristics and assessment of final exam.
