Helena Janeczek was born in Munich in 1964 into a Polish-Jewish family and she’s been living in Italy for over thirty years. She wrote Lezioni di tenebra (“Lessons in Darkness”, 1997), Premio Bagutta opera prima; Cibo (“Food”, 2002); Le rondini di Montecassino (“The Swallows of Monte Cassino”, 2010), finalist for the Premio Comisso and winner of the Premio Napoli, Premio Sandro Onofri and Premio Pisa awards; and La ragazza con la Leica (The Girl With the Leica, 2017), translated in English by Ann Goldstein, winner of the Premio Strega 2018, Premio Bagutta and Premio Campiello selection. His latest novel, Il tempo degli imprevisti (“The Time of the Unexpected”), forthcoming from Guanda, is presented for the first time at Incroci di Civiltà.
