The programme at a glance

The Master européen en Études Françaises et Francophones is a master's degree programme jointly designed by a consortium of European universities. It offers selected students the opportunity to pursue an international study path, spending a mobility semester at one of the partner Universities and obtaining a double academic degree upon completion of the programme.

  • Master en langues et littératures françaises et romanes (Université catholique de Louvain);
Students who carry out their mobility at the University of Lausanne and at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid will not obtain a degree, but rather a certificate of attendance from the host University. 		 

Admission Requirements

Candidates who are not yet enrolled in the 1st year of the master's degree programme in European, American, and Postcolonial Languages and Literatures at the time of submitting their application must meet the admission requirements for the aforementioned programme (curricular requirements and personal preparation)  and commit to finalizing their enrollment by the deadlines set for the academic year following the Call’s publication year, under penalty of exclusion from the programme.

Candidates already enrolled in the 1st year of the master's degree programme in European, American, and Postcolonial Languages and Literatures in the Call’s publication academic year must have acquired at least 12 ECTS credits by the application deadline.

To participate in the programme, candidates must have at least a C1 level proficiency in the French language, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Additionally, those who will undertake mobility at:

  • Humboldt Universität zu Berlin must have at least a B2 level proficiency in German;
  • Universidad Autónoma de Madrid must have at least a B2 level proficiency in Spanish.

No official language certifications are required.

Students can apply for the programme following the procedures and deadlines outlined in the Call for applications and its annexes, which are published annually.

The results of the selection process are published on this webpage, according to the timelines specified in Annex A of the Call.

Programme and study plan

Selected students will spend a mobility semester at one of the Consortium member Universities, either:

  • during the 1° semester of their 2° year (recommended),
  • during the 2° semester of their 1° year.

During the mobility period, students will have to achieve at least 30 ECTS.

For students who will enroll in the 1st year of the master's degree programme in European, American, and Postcolonial Languages and Literatures in the academic year following the Call’s publication year, it will be possible to express a preference regarding the period for the mobility semester, although it is recommended to choose the 1st semester of the second year.

Following the conclusion of the selection process, students participating in the programme must fill out the study plan form provided below, to define their study plan. The document must be approved and signed by the academic coordinator of the programme, Prof. Olivier Serge Bivort, and submitted to the Student Administration Unit that will take care of updating their online study plan, by the deadlines listed on the dedicated webpage: Study plan and exams.

Tuition fees and mobility grant

Selected students are required to pay tuition fees to Ca' Foscari for the entire duration of the programme and will benefit from total exemption from the payment of tuition fees at the partner University.

For the mobility period, students will benefit from a mobility grant with a variable amount, as defined annually in the Calls for Applications.

Mobility procedures

Before departing for the mobility, selected students will be required to:

  • complete the registration/application procedure at the receiving institution according to the methods and within the deadlines set by the Partner University;
  • sign the grant agreement that regulates the disbursement of the mobility grant;
  • fill out the Learning Agreement, listing all the educational activities to be carried out at the Partner University and identifying the equivalences with the courses included in the Ca' Foscari study plan, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Further information will be provided by the Welcome Unit (International Office) upon completion of the selection process and after formal acceptance of the offer.

After reaching the destination, students will have to get the confirmation of arrival form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual start date of the mobility period (orientation/welcome activities or educational activities).

If the students intend to make changes to the study plan agreed upon before departure, it is possible to complete a Learning Agreement variation form, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Before returning from the mobility, students will have to get the confirmation of departure form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual end date of the mobility period.

As soon as available, students must send to the Welcome Unit (International Office) the Transcript of records issued by the Host University, i.e. the certificate listing all the exams they passed during the mobility abroad.

The exams reported in the Transcript of records must correspond to those agreed upon in the Learning Agreement and any subsequent variation forms.

Graduation

Students will complete the programme at Ca’ Foscari, following the deadlines indicated in the dedicated web page: Thesis and final degree exam | Deadlines, admission and procedures.

The thesis will be written under joint supervision of a Ca' Foscari professor and a professor from the partner university at the mobility destination.

Once they have obtained the Italian degree, students must inform the Welcome Unit, which will handle the submission of the necessary documentation to the partner University to initiate the diploma issuance process.

Both degrees will be recognized in the country of issuance.

Students who spend their mobility period at Université de Lausanne or at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid will achieve the Ca’ Foscari diploma only, in addition to an attendance certificate issued by the mobility University.
