The Master's degree programme provides specialist skills in the study of the main philosophical and epistemological issues inherited from tradition and developed by contemporary debate. This specialisation, which guarantees the necessary cultural preparation for teaching, research and the transmission of scientific knowledge, will enable the student to systematically understand the theoretical reasons and the various dimensions of the most important challenges of the present (ethical, political, scientific, artistic, educational, training). These skills can also be used in the fields of publishing, communication, philosophical consultancy, training, cultural activities in public and private institutions, and new professional and business prospects.
The degree programme is divided into two paths:
Ca' Foscari University of Venice offers international educational programmes designed in collaboration with one or more partner universities, entailing the attendance of part of the study path abroad. At the conclusion of these programmes, selected students obtain a Double Degree (a diploma from Ca' Foscari and one issued by the partner university) or a Joint Degree (single degree jointly awarded by the member universities of the consortium delivering the programme), depending on the provisions of the agreements with the partner universities and the different national regulations.
Double and Joint Degrees available:
The educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and research activities, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
During the whole university career, the various skills and knowledge acquired by students will be assessed through written and oral examinations.
The degree exam consists in writing a thesis, which must possess the characters of originality, exhaustive documentation and scientific investigation and which will be discussed with a committee of university professors and experts.
Professional Master's Programmes (1st and 2nd level) and PhD programmes.
Philosophical Consultant:
The philosophical consultant is a professional who serves as a bridge between theoretical knowledge and the resolution of specific practical problems in productive, intercultural, decision-making, or existential contexts. They assist clients by helping them understand their perspective on reality, encouraging reflection upon it, and facilitating its reinterpretation. Their work may be conducted in collaboration with other professionals already engaged within the organisation (such as psychologists, social and healthcare workers, trainers, psychiatrists, educators, human resources managers, and teachers) or independently as a freelance consultant.
Training Expert:
The trainer is responsible for the learning process aimed at enhancing the knowledge, technical and/or professional skills, and abilities of participants in extracurricular training courses, continuing education activities, and vocational training for unemployed individuals.
They may oversee some or all aspects of a training programme, including planning and designing training interventions by identifying the most effective methodologies to meet client demands and learner needs, delivering lessons, managing tutoring and relationships with teachers, and evaluating the results achieved. In fulfilling their duties, trainers interact with various stakeholders and professionals within the organisation, including line managers, external experts, human resources personnel, and participants in training initiatives.
History and Philosophy Teacher:
Graduates in Philosophical Sciences will be able to teach philosophy and history in secondary schools. Graduates who have obtained a sufficient number of credits in the relevant subject areas will be eligible, as per Italian current legislation, to apply for teacher training programmes in secondary education.
Finally, they may apply for scholarships for the International Research Doctorate (PhD), established at Ca’ Foscari University in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
