New Taiwan Research Center for Chinese Studies inaugurated at Ca’ Foscari

On November 16th, an agreement was signed between  the National  Central Library of the Republic of China and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, marking the foundation of a “Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies”.  The event was organized by BALI - the University library for language studies, SBA - the Library System, and the Department of Asian and North African Studies.

The physical part of the center, located inside the Ca’ Foscari Zattere library, will host books and materials for research and consultation. Furthermore, the agreement will facilitate joint research programmes, knowledge transfer and  other academic initiatives between the two institutions.

Welcome remarks were delivered by Vice-Rector and International Relations delegate, professor Tiziana Lippiello. With 23 remarkable sinologists and a huge variety of dedicated programmes” – she stated – “Ca’ Foscari is the biggest and most important institution for Chinese Studies in Italy” . Professor Dorit Raines, President of the Library System at Ca’ Foscari, underlined the relevance of this new collection which will “add to the other languages already present in the Ca’ Foscari Zattere library”. 

Shu-hsien Tseng, Director-General of the National Central Library of Taiwan and Andrea Sing-Ying Lee, Taipei Representative in Italy, both congratulated the University for its efforts in developing positive relationships with institutions all over the world and, in doing so, fostering and strengthening a mutual exchange of knowledge between different cultures. All of this in the city of Marco Polo, the historical symbol of the meeting between the East and the  West.

Marco Ceresa, Director of the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice gave the final speech before the unveiling of the plaque, located in the Ca’ Foscari Zattere Library.
Hosted in the “Tesa B” section of the library, the book collection, still in its initial stage, will soon house numerous  important volumes  donated by the National  Central Library of the Republic of China.
