Open call for PhDs. University, companies and EU join forces thanks to NRRP

The new call for applications to the 39th cycle of PhD programmes (starting in the academic year 2023-2024) is online. In addition to "ordinary" scholarships, the call for applications also includes scholarships funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The application deadline is 1.00 p.m. (CEST) on Wednesday, 31 May 2023.

You can choose from 14 PhD programmes, offering a total of 123 PhD scholarships made available by NRRP, and by the fund for University Departments of Excellence, competitive funding, agreements with other universities, research institutions, companies and research projects.

Patrick Heinrich, Delegate for PhDs, thus comments on the opening of the call: 'The PhD programme at Ca' Foscari is undergoing a major and positive transformation. All programmes continue to grow, especially thanks to the scholarships funded by the NRRP. The projects funded by these grants play an important role in connecting the academic world with the corporate world and with Italian and European society at large. The call is also being disseminated within our EUTOPIA network, and this is very important for a further internationalisation of our doctoral programmes. I believe that the PhD programme can become a model of how to make research and education at Ca’ Foscari fit for today's world challenges. I am therefore very pleased with the transformations that are taking place."

What is new? A new PhD course in Sustainable Chemistry was activated by the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems to foster “transversal skills” and to bring sustainability concepts and practices into the solution of current technical, social, environmental and scientific problems. At the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics the PhD in Polar Sciences is gaining the status of Doctorate of National Interest. The Department of Economics offers the largest number of grants funded by the NRRP, including 'GRINS - Growing Resilient, INclusive and Sustainable' and 'AGEIT'.

2. Law, Market and Person in partnership with the University of Southern Denmark and the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain;
3. Economics;
4. Philosophy and Educational Sciences in partnership with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, France;
5. Computer Science in partnership with Masarykova Univerzita, Czech Republic;
6. Italian Studies in partnership with Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria;
7. Modern Languages, Cultures and Societies, and Linguistics in partnership with Sorbonne Université, France and with Univerza na Primorskem/Università del Litorale, Slovenia;
8. Management in partnership with SKEMA Business School, France;
9. Science and Management of Climate Change in partnership with the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change - CMCC;
10. Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials in partnership with Kyoto Institute of Technology – KIT, Japan, Aviano Oncological Centre – CRO and with Italian Institute of Technology IIT – Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology (CCHT);
11. Environmental Sciences in partnership with Italian Institute of Technology IIT– and Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology (CCHT);
12. Ancient Heritage Studies in partnership with University of Trieste and University of Udine;
13. History of Arts;
14. Asian and African Studies in partnership with Universität Heidelberg, Germany;

Ca' Foscari also participates, with three further funded scholarships, in the PhD Programme in Historical, Geographical and Anthropological Studies managed at the University of Padua, and in a dozen “Doctorates of National Interest”.
