Ca’ Foscari welcomes back Ruskino, the Festival of Russian Cinema

“Ruskino at Ca’ Foscari” is back for its 8th edition. The highly-anticipated and well appreciated Festival of Contemporary Russian Cinema will take place from November 5th to 9th.

The initiative is promoted by the Centre for Film Festivals and International Programmes and CSAR, the Centre for Russian Art Studies, in collaboration with the Russian Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs, the city of  Venice and the “Venice-Russia” association.  

The festival will open on Monday, November 5th  at 4 p.m., with a screening of the movie “The Net” (Nevod) by Aleksandra Strelyanaya (Russia, 2017), in the Aula Magna Silvio Trentin at Ca’ Dolfin. 
In the following two days, the movies will be screened in the Santa Margherita Auditorium: viewers will have the chance to see “A Job for a Pioneer 3” by Aleksandr Karpilovskij (Russia, 2017) on Tuesday, November 6th.  “Ajnagul” (or “The Crystal Flower”) by Artak Serovanin-Oganjan, “If the Impressionists Were Dentists” by Alina Abramova, “Koljasa” by Rinat Machmudov and “The Parallel of Centuries” by Vladimir Bazunkov will all be screened on Wednesday, November 7th. 

The winners of the Subtitle Contest will be announced on November 6th and 7th: this year, both High School and University students had the chance to participate in the competition, approaching russian culture, cinematic arts and translation. 

From Thursday, November 8th, the festival will then move to the Rossini Movie Theatre, with an 8.00 pm show of “The Ice” (Liod) by Oleg Trofi (Russia, 2018). On Friday November 9th, Ruskino will close with “Bolshoi” by Valerij Todorovskij (Russia, 2017).

“Like every year, the festival focuses on recently released films by up-and-coming directors and screenwriters of the Russian Federation” – explained Silvia Bruni, Director of the CSAR – “the Subtitle Contest, now in its fifth edition, is also an invitation to rediscover a useful and innovative tool, especially in the film and digital industries”.
Friday, November 9th will also see the opening of the exhibition “Anna Karenina as a Reflection of the Era”, hosted at the Collegio Salesiano Astori Theater in Mogliano Veneto, from 1.15 p.m.


All the movies will be in their original version, with Italian subtitles
