The venetian group of ‘Marie Curie’ alumni is born

Consolidating a positive environment for research includes the creation of opportunities for meeting and exchanging between promising young researchers. In this light, Ca’ Foscari launches the Marie Curie Alumni Association - Venice Local Organisation, a group that includes Ca’ Foscari Marie Curie researchers as well as Ca’ Foscari researchers that have achieved a Marie Curie project at another host institution in Europe.

The Venice Local Organisation was officially approved by the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), the network of Marie Curie alumni from all over the world; it is a step towards the policies of career development that Ca’ Foscari has been progressively consolidating and improving.

In witness of Ca’ Foscari’s committment, as well as the approval of the local venetian group, the MCAA has also attributed the prestigious Honorary Recognition to Dario Pellizzon, director of Ca' Foscari's Research Area, for his “exceptional contribution to the development and growth of the association”.

The Venice Local Organisation was launched to allow fellows to get to understand, confront and collaborate actively with each other, exchanging information and proposing new initiatives to the benefit not only of the Marie Curie winners, but also of the post-doc present at Ca’ Foscari.

The first meeting has seen the participation of eleven Marie Curie fellows of seven different nationalities hailing from the Departments of Humanities, Philosophy and Cultural Heritage, Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics and Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies.

They are Filip Alexandrescu, Panagiotis Athanasopoulos, Matteo Bertelè, Suzana Blesic, Valentina Bonifacio, Alice Equestri, Alessandra Gilibert, Chengfang Pang, Xanthi Pedeli, Arianna Traviglia, and Veronica West-Harling.

The first meeting was filled with exchanges and new prompts for discussion: a great occasion for researchers to present themselves and discuss their own projects, as well as for the Research Area to present everything that the University is doing to create the most welcoming and attractive community of research for Marie Curie scholars, and in general for all foreign researchers. Some of these initiatives have already been carried out, others are being worked on, with the objective to constantly improve services and tools to support the researchers’ careers.

In the future, the Venice Local Organisation will also be open to all winners of Marie Curie scholarships that conduct research in Venice, to support an always inclusive and stimulating environment of research and exchange.

The new meeting is to be held in occasion of the info-day “Conduct Research Abroad: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships, how to write a successful application”, that will take place on 25^th May in the Santa Margherita Auditorium and will aim to provide information and orientation to potential candidates that will participate in the MC Individual Fellowship application, opening on 11^th April and closing on 14^th September 2017.
