Dunhuang in Venice, a prestigious collaboration and an exhibition

On September 22nd 2017 the Memorandum of Understanding “Dunhuang in Venice” between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the Dunhuang Research Academy and the Dunhuang Culture Promotion Foundation was signed at the Dunhuang Research Academy, as the first step of a long lasting collaboration that will be celebrated with an exhibition dedicated to frescoes in Dunhuang held at the Exhibition Spaces at Ca’ Foscari in 2018.

The Director of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London, Sir David Green, and, the famous director Wang Zhe and other guests took part in the ceremony.

Wang Xudong, the Director of the Dunhuang Research Academy, who invited the Vice-Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Tiziana Lippiello, and the head of tourism for the City of Venice, Paola Mar, to  “The Second Silk Road Dunhuang International Cultural Expo” hoped to promote initiatives of common interest in the future and share a long-lasting collaboration, highlighting how Venice and Dunhuang both played fundamental roles in traditional Silk Routes.

The Vice-rector, Tiziana Lippiello, thanked Xudong for the invitation and collaboration and enhanced how the exhibition will be a great starting point to promote the collaboration between institutions and fields.

The head of tourism for the City of Venice, Paola Mar, thanked Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for providing such an opportunity and highlighted how throughout history Venice was a gateway to the West, hoping that this collaboration with the Dunhuang Research Academy may provide continuity to such a tradition of cultural promotion and dialogue.

Finally Wang Ying, the President of the Dunhuang Culture Promotion Foundation, has highlighted how important promoting intercultural dialogue is as a fundamental requisite for the development of history and cultures. Venice and Dunhuang provide a great contribution to the development of cultural tourism around the world.
