The teaching of Thai language, in the past only offered to students enrolled in oriental languages at Ca' Foscari , has been revised as of this academic year to widen the choice of courses dedicated to oriental Asia.

Thai is the official language of Thailand, a country whose ancient culture shows major points of contact with China. Thailand is one of the more developed emerging economies of Eastern Asia, an important center for the production of the automotive industry of ASEAN (Association of South - East Asian Nations), which is now increasing its remarkable economic development, not only in the primary sector but also in industry and services, representing an interesting field of trade with Italy. In fact, 2015 was the year when the business forum Italy - Thailand, which brings together 29 'top management' level major groups from the two countries (with a total turnover of over 315 billion US dollars).

The course, unique in Italy, will be held by Prof. Mario Sabattini, language and Thai culture expert, Professor Emeritus at Ca' Foscari University and for many years professor of Chinese Language and Literature. The course is included in the Department of Studies on Asia and Mediterranean Africa teaching program.
