As part of the initiative to renew cooperation between Italy and India in the field of Science and Technology, the rector and senior faculty members of Ca’ Foscari met representatives of the Department of Science and Technology of Government of India and Indian scientists to identify areas of research in which to collaborate.

The goal of the Venetian university is to strengthen existing efforts made with Indian institutes and extend them to other partners with new agreements, projects and exchanges. During the meeting the rector of Ca’ Foscari, Michele Bugliesi, along with professors at the university presented high-impact research initiatives which will also be developed as part of the group Research for Global Challenges. The Indian delegation was led by Prof.  Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary in the Department of Science and Technology. Other delegates included Mr. Rajiv Kumar and Mr. Gaurav Aggarwal from the same department, Prof. DD Sarma of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and Mr. Ravi Shankar, Deputy Head of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Rome.

The visit to Venice was held after the meeting of the Italy-India Joint Committee on Science and Technology under the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Italy and India signed in New Delhi in 2003. The meeting saw the two sides reiterating their commitment towards scientific cooperation.

Ca Foscari University has organized several India-specific events and activities in the past. Last month, the cultural initiatives week "Conversation with Contemporary India" was held in its premises.
