Scientific experience: my research experience started with my MSc dissertation during which I developed the interest in investigation. My thesis dealt with the hydraulic risk in rivers due to the presence of woody debris. Since my PhD I have been developing the same subject integrating two different approaches, both the spatial and temporal point of view, and considering different research methodologies: field measurements (use of GPS - Global Positioning System and data collection), laboratory analysis (physical characterization of the samples) and mathematical and statistical modeling (use of GIS - Geographical Information System, statistical software and use of MatLab language to analyze data). The integration of several approaches helped me to reach a global vision of the problem generally analyzed only at basin or at local scale from different disciplines. My inclination in using multidisciplinary approaches helped me to engage my next new research experience. In 2008 my knowledge on fluid dynamic, mathematical modeling and environmental problems permitted me to win a Post Doc position aimed to study the impact of the main air pollution emission sources in Venice area (project funded by large companies such as ENEL, ENI, EDISON, POLIMERI EUROPA). My research was focused on the use of air pollution models (Eulerian-Photochemical and Lagrangian models, diagnostic and prognostic meteorological models), in order to characterize the formation, the dispersion and the deposition of the main harmful pollutants with particular attention focus on the secondary PM2.5. The project permitted me to create collaborations with private companies and public agencies of regional and national relevance (Arianet S.r.l., ACTV - Venice Public Transport Agency, EZI - Ente Zona Industriale, ARPAV - Environmental Protection Agency of the Veneto Region, Venice Water Authority and the Port of Venice). My research now is focused on the air quality impact of one of the most important international airport-system in Italy: Venice-Treviso (VCE_TSF), in collaboration with SAVE Group S.p.A.. The ability to quantitatively predict the effects of air pollutants originated by airport operations is important for assessing air quality and the related impacts on human health. The risk posed by air quality degradation is of considerable concern particularly for those airports that are located near urban areas. I adopted an integrated approach (field measurements and modeling) that permitted to discriminate the effect of aircraft fleet emissions respect to the other local emission sources in the area, with special attention to the meteorological influence. More studies are desirable especially regarding the relation between regional air pollution and their effects on climate change. From 2013 I am collaborating with the Dep. of Industrial Engineering of Padova University and OSMOTECH S.r.l.. to study the odor impact Venice-Treviso Ariport system. Field surveys have been conducted in collaboration with SAVE S.p.A. and Alitalia S.p.A. and a first attempt to evaluate aircraft odor emission and dispersion with matehmatical models. Odour studies are in progress especially for airports near urban context where protests from local communities are increasing.
Management experience: My management experience started during university years in 2002 when I created, as founder member, Engineering without borders – Padova (ISF-PD). Main competences were related to association management, fund raising, conferences organization and coordination of cooperation projects dealing with “Water resources” and “Trashware” (from 2002 to 2007). During my PhD I participated to the international program: EPIC FORCE (Evidence-based Policy for Integrated Control of Forested River Catchments in Extreme Rainfall and Snowmelt) that involved different European (Italy, UK and Spain) and South American (Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Costa Rica) countries. I helped managing field survey with students, drafting the final technical report and organizing the final conference. In 2006 I also worked in the association Women and Science-Padova as a volunteer member helping with website creation and conferences organization. From 2008 to 2010 I was in charge to coordinate the implementation of a suitable air quality modeling system in collaboration with Arianet S.r.l. to analyze the impact of PM2.5 formation, transport and deposition in Venice area. During this project I created relations with both public and private stakeholder in order to achieve the project goals. I also helped in organizing the final project conference. In 2014 I presented a project for SIR (Scientific Independence of young Researchers)an italian national program without passing, but with optimum result. From 2009 I am in charge of coordinating the collaboration between SAVE S.p.A. , the large company that manage the Venice Marco Polo Airport and the research group I refer to at Ca’ Foscari University. I have been involved in modeling implementation, field surveys inside the airport area and results evaluation. I have also been in charge to organize technical meeting, to design the budget and the methodologies applied. I was strongly involved in partners contacts creation. My work permitted to create a new collaboration among SAVE S.p.A., the Dep. of Industrial Engineering, Padova University, OSMOTECH S.r.l. and Alitalia S.p.A. to study aircraft odor impact for Marco Polo Airport.
