Alessandra Rizzi graduated in Literature (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and obtained a PhD in European Social History (Ca' Foscari University of Venice). She is qualified to teach in secondary schools. She also obtained a diploma in Archivistics, Paleography and Diplomacy (ASVE) and a Short-term Frances A. Yates Fellowship at the Warburg Institute in London. She is a researcher in Medieval History at the Department of Humanities.

She teaches Medieval History (bachelor’s degree) and History of Venice in the Middle Ages (master's degree).

The main areas of interest are the history of Venice (6th-15th century), with regard to communication and political relations with the outside world and with the surrounding territories, and the history of the recreational system and its interconnections with medieval and ancient regime societies. Her interests also include the action of the mendicant orders in communities of the Middle Ages. She has been a speaker at national and international conferences on these topics; she holds conferences and PhD lessons; she organises conferences and has published scientific works for international publishers.

She is a member of the scientific committee of "Ludica, annali di storia e civiltà del gioco"; of the jury of the award "Premio Gaetano Cozzi per saggi di storia del gioco"; of SISS (Società italiana di storia dello sport), and she is co-director of the series "Ludica: collana di storia del gioco".

She has obtained regional funding (LR nr. 15/1994 "Interventi per il recupero, la conservazione e la valorizzazione del patrimonio di origine veneta nell'Istria e Dalmazia", allocations 2013, 2014, 2017).

Formerly a member of the Teaching Committee of History, of the departmental commissions for IT qualifications, for the distribution of the University fund for scientific research, for Orientation, she is currently a member of Ce.Do.Di, and for the Department of Humanities she is a member of the Library Commission, a delegate for Orientation and a member of the Teaching Committee of History.

She was the winner of one of the Stefano Benetton scholarships for undergraduate and PhD theses (1990-1991). She is a full member of the Deputazione di Storia patria per le Venezie.
