Gabriella BUFFA

Is Associate Professor of Plant Ecology at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics, where she teaches “Plant Biology”, “Laboratory of Biodiversity”, “Ecological Network and Biodiversity Conservation”, “Vegetation Science and Landscape Ecology”. She graduated at Padua University where she started her academic career as permanent lecturer. She has been visiting scholar at the Institute of Integrative Nature Conservation Research (University of Natural Resources and Life Science of Vienna, Austria); visiting researcher at the Conservatoire Botanique National de Bailleul (France), at University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and at University Complutense of Madrid (Spain).

Her research activity has mainly concerned plant communities ecology and landscape ecology. At present researches focus on: - problems involved with in-situ and ex-situ biodiversity conservation; - seeds germination and in vitro methods; - development of ecological indices based on structural and functional characteristics of plant assemblages; monitoring, planning and management of Natura 2000 network. She collaborated on regional and national projects funded by the Ministero dell’Ambiente e Tutela del Territorio e del Mare and she is  responsible for research projects funded by local public bodies. She collaborates with the Veneto Region (Area “Ecological networks and Biodiversity”); Veneto Agricoltura (Area “Research and Agroforestry Management”); Venice Provincial Administration (Area “Environmental policies - Landscape Planning”); Venice Municipality  (“Environmental Department - Osservatorio della laguna e del territorio”).

She sat on the Steering Committee of the Italian Society of Vegetation Science and from 2011, she is Chairwoman of the Regional Division of the Italian Botanical Society and member of the Board of the Vegetation Science group of the Italian Botanical Society. She is member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Fitosociologia” and "Annali di Botanica".
