Francesca De Agnoi is a Ph.D. student in Comparative Literature and Aesthetics at the University of Milan. She is enrolled in the inter-university doctoral programme of national interest Image, Language, Figure, coordinated by Andrea Pinotti. Her hosting institution is Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where she works under the supervision of Stefano Ercolino.

Her research delves into the cathartic potential of negative empathy across postmodernist fiction and narrative-driven video games, while seeking to address the gap between the ever-dwindling attention span of digital natives and the aesthetic discourse. The project lies at the intersection of critical theory, aesthetics, comparative literature, and cognitive poetics, and relies on qualitative empirical methods, an interdisciplinary approach and a comparative analysis of 4 case studies drawn from postmodern narratives and action-adventure video games.

Her research interests revolve around negative empathy, affect studies, metalepsis, psychoanalytic approaches to literature, the sublime, and game studies.

She is currently a visiting researcher at the School of Communication and Culture of Aarhus University, Denmark, under the supervision of Mads Rosendahl Thomsen.
