Francesco Valentino is a researcher in Industrial Chemical Processes (tenure track position RTD-B, SSD ING-IND/25) at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics, at "Cà Foscari" University of Venice since 2021. Graduated with honors from "La Sapienza" University of Rome at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences in Industrial Chemistry (2008) and the PhD in Industrial Chemical Processes (2012) defending the thesis “Polyhydroxyalkanoates production in aerobic sequential processes by mixed microbial cultures". In 2012, he was research assistant at the Swedish company Anoxkaldnes AB-Veolia Water Technologies in Lund, where he spent also the last part of his PhD as visiting PhD student. He was post-doctoral fellow (2013-2016) and researcher (RTD-A, SSD ING-IND/25; 2017-2020) at the Department of Chemistry of "La Sapienza" University of Rome. Partner of several european and national research projects such as: FP7 ("Routes", "Ecobiocap" and "Water4Crops"), H2020 ("Res Urbis", "NoAW" and "Smart Plant"), BBI ("Usable Packaging"); Projects of Relevant National Interest (PRIN 2012) and BRIC-INAIL 2016 national project; two regional POR FESR 2014 – 2020 ("Operative Regional Program" in "European Fund of Regional Development") projects. He is author of more than 60 international peer-review journal publications, 3 book chapters, 4 patents (h-index 22 accornding to SCOPUS); and over 45 presentations to international conferences.

Member of the editorial board of the MDPI Sustainability journal (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability/sectioneditors/sustainablechemistry) in the section "Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Technology" from 2018; guest editor of a special issue in "Frontieres in Bioengineering and Biotechnology" and "MDPI Sustainability" international journals. As relevant extra academic activities, he is a member of the section "Environmental Biotechnology" in the frame of European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB); member of the Advisory Board of EU Scalibur Project (http://www.scalibur.eu/); and advisory/expert evaluator at "European Commission - Research Executive Agency (REA)" for the European projects evaluation in the frame of H2020-BBI-JU (Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking).

National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale, ASN) for the Academic Discipline (Settore Concorsuale, SC) 09/D3 for Associate Professor (seconda fascia) obtained in January 2020.
