Summary

Damiano Pasetto received the master degree in Applied Mathematics in 2009 at the University of Padova, Italy. In 2013 he received the PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Padua. Since Novemeber 2019 he is reasearch assista in Numerical Analysis at the Department of Environmental Science, Informatics and Statistics of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

His research focuses on developing new methods to improve the prediction accuracy and computational efficiency of dynamical systems governed by nonlinear differential equations in the presence of stochastic parameters. Specific topics of research include uncertainty propagation, inverse modelling methodologies, data assimilation methods, and model order reduction techniques. Target applications are mainly related to the numerical simulation of flow and transport processes in porous media, calibration of metapopulation models, and real-time forecasting of water-borne diseases (in particular, cholera outbreaks).

Damiano Pasetto is actively involved in research collaborations at the national and international level, such as the Horizon 2020 projects NewTechAqua and  ECOPOTENTIAL. He is co-author of 16 papers published in international journals and gave several talks at international conferences.

He is currently teaching the courses of Calculus 1, Calculus 2 and Numerical Algorithms. He has been teacher assistant for the courses of numerical calculus, numerical methods, complex analysis and hydrology. He is co-advisor of two PhD students and he has been co-supervisor of several master and bachelor thesis in mathematics and engineering.

On August 2018 he received the Italian National Academic qualification as assistant professor in Numerical Analysis (sector 01/A5).

Research projects

As Co-PI:

  • “Risk evaluation of mosquito-borne disease transmission through urban commutes pathways”, funded by the ENAC Exploratory Grant 2018, EPFL. Project written in collaboration with E. Massaro (EPFL). Duration: 2018-2019.

As member of the research team:

  • “NewTechAqua". Duration 2020-2024
  • “ECOPOTENTIAL: improving future ecosystem benefits through earth observations”, funded by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. Duration 2015-2019. Project leader: A. Provenzale (CNR). DP was the leading author for two deliverables of the project, D6.1 “Methods in Earth Observation-based modelling” and D8.5 “Guidelines for large-scale monitoring ecosystems”.
