The student will learn the rational mental processes driving human behavior, as well as nonlinear cognitive processes challenging conventional economics, and the uncertainties in decision making; and how all these condition decision making at an institutional level
The student will learn the rational mental processes driving human behavior, as well as nonlinear cognitive processes challenging conventional economics, and the uncertainties in decision making; and how all these condition decision making at an institutional level
(Micro)economics knowledge is welcome, but not required. Students without a background on economics will be provided lectures to catch up with the contents of the subject.
Basic knowledge of mathematical programming is welcome, but not required.
DECISION THEORY AND MULTI-CRITERIA ANALYSIS - Programme
1) Understanding the behavior of individuals:
1.1) Utility measures of preference;
1.2) constraints, tradeoffs;
1.3) decision making;
1.4) revealing preferences;
2. Managing the behavior of individuals:
2.1) managing the behavior of agents through policy - regulations;
2.2) managing the behavior of agents through policy - economic instruments;
3. Surprise and uncertainty:
3.1) Concepts and tools
3.2) Decision making under deep uncertainty
Literature: Pindyck, RS & Rubinfeld, DL. MICROECONOMICS, 8th Edition (Pearson).
[all materials will be provided during lessons]
Working paper to be produced by the student and connected to a topic dealt with during the lessons. The topic of the working paper will be agreed with the professor during the lessons.
Presentations by the professor with active participation from the students. Methods to enhance participation will include serious games, surveys, collective resolution of problems
