The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the central mechanisms through which fi nancial variables, especially credit and asset prices (stock, bond,
and currency prices), interact with macroeconomic variables such as consumption, investment, and GDP over the business cycle and during fi nancial crises. We will study various
dimensions of these interactions, including: Asset bubbles and crashes; the causes and consequences of financial crises; market frictions, fi nancial market efficiency and financial
market microstructure, Financial crises and the design macroeconomic policies, Macroprudential financial regulation after the global financial crisis of 2008-2010; the stabilising role
of macroprudential policies and financial regulation.
The student will be confident with the basic concepts of finance
You are expected to be comfortable with basic undergraduate course in theory of finance and on modern time series econometrics. Some knowledge on consumption-
based and general equilibrium models may help. You are expected to read a lot on your own and come to class prepared.

We will use two main textbook for the class, as well as additional papers that I will make
available on the class website.

Grinblatt M. and S. Titman (2001), Financial Markets and Corporate Strategy, Irwin, [Chapters 4, 5, 6]
Blanchard J. and S. Fisher (1998), Lectures on Macroeconomics [Chapters 6, 10]
The grading will be based on class participation (20%), papers presentation (40%), written exam (40%).
The class will go over the material at a reasonably fast pace. I will assign one or two chapters or papers to read before each class which I expect students read
before. I will cover than the material in class.
