Abstract
Between 1880 and 1920, the maritime industry was a hotbed of innovation and upheaval. With rapid technological advancements and ever-shifting economic landscapes, the rivalry between traditional sailing vessels and steam-powered ships brought with it both challenges and opportunities. It’s a narrative about the past and future, risk and reward, tradition and transformation as we explore this pivotal moment in maritime history through the past dependencies, tech-skepticism, and visionary ambitions that came to define the industry for the 20th century.
