Prof. Silvia Maria Fávero Arend

DSLCC

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.

I completed my master's and doctorate in History at the Federal University of Rio Grande
do Sul (UFRGS), doing an internship at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales
(France). In 2012, I completed a postdoctoral internship at Science Po (Paris) and, in
2028, at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. From the beginning of my academic training to
the present day, my studies have focused on the History of Law and social policies,
especially those implemented for Brazilian women, children and young people. I am a
professor of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in History at the State University
of Santa Catarina (UDESC), where I teach the subjects History of Brazil and History and
Human Rights. I am currently editor of journal Tempo e Argumento and coordinator of
the Gender and Family Laboratory.

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research
and teaching stay.

Ca’ Foscari University stands out among Italian universities in relation to studies in the
fields of Humanities and Literature. Teaching the Luso-Brazilian History subject will allow
scientific knowledge, produced in the global South within the scope of Humanities and
Literature, to circulate among European students and students from other continents.
On the other hand, teaching students of different nationalities will greatly expand my
knowledge about pedagogical practices and History.

3.Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of
Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?

Ca’ Foscari University and Santa Catarina State University signed a scientific cooperation
agreement in 2013. Since that time, students from both institutions have been
undertaking academic mobility, especially between undergraduate courses. Professor
Luis Fernando Beneduzi participated in research projects developed by the Gender and
Family Relations Laboratory on the topic of international migration that resulted in the
publication of books and scientific articles. Possibly, my stay at Ca’ Foscari University will
further expand scientific cooperation between the two universities.
