Interview

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.
My research on contemporary Spanish culture began in the late eighties of the last century. The first focus
of interest was Hispanic avant-garde prose, both narrative and essayistic. In this line are books such as Los
espejos del novelista (1998), Proceder a sabiendas (1997) and Prosa del 27 (2000), the essays of Travesías
vanguardistas (2009) or the studies and editions of Miguel de Unamuno, Azorín, Ramón Gómez de la Serna,
Benjamín Jarnés or Antonio Marichalar. A second line of research has been Spanish literature from 1939 to
the present, to which is dedicated Derrota y restitución de la modernidad, 1939-2010 (2011), co-authored
with J. Gracia, and studies and editions of Carmen Laforet, Miguel Delibes, Antonio Buero Vallejo, Vicente
Soto or Javier Cercas. Finally, a point of confluence is found in works such as Ensayo español. Siglo XX
(2008) and Pensar por ensayos en la España del siglo XX (2015), or in the recent biographical essay El orden
del azar. Guillermo de Torre entre los Borges (2023).

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.
Apart from the fact that I have been invited as a visiting professor, the Department of Linguistics and
Comparative Studies at Ca'Foscari is very stimulating for the prestige and dynamism of its research and for
the interdisciplinary composition of the Department. In addition, research on Spanish literature has always
been very relevant.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of Linguistics and
Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?

Yes, I have collaborated on some occasions with professors from the Department.
