Interview

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity
After completing an official master's degree in English Language for International Trade at the Universitat Jaume I, I embarked on a doctoral thesis in the Applied Linguistics program in English Language. My thesis presents a multimodal study of persuasive language in academic and business presentations, and it was awarded the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize. During the thesis, I began collaborating with the research group GRAPE (Group for Research on Academic and Professional English), of which I am currently a member.
My research trajectory focuses on the multimodal study of academic and business discourse, particularly on the multimodal nature of academic, scientific, and business genres. Recently, I have become interested in the dissemination of science and in oral genres used in the field of Health Sciences.
Over these years, I have gained extensive teaching experience in Higher Education, primarily in the area of English for Specific Purposes. This teaching experience has sparked my interest in multimodal and multilingual communication in the classroom, particularly in the use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) and Integrated Content and Language Teaching in Higher Education (ICLHE), as well as in the teaching genres used in these contexts.

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.
I am currently involved in a research project that studies the multimodal strategies used for communication in the field of Health Sciences. The project aims to enhance our understanding of professional oral genres in the field of Health Sciences. It also aims to contribute to the improvement and innovation in the design of English for Health Sciences instructional materials, enhancing the training of future healthcare professionals. I believe the research carried out in the department can greatly contribute to this project and I expect to learn a lot about scientific knowledge dissemination, medical video abstracts, multimodal medical genres and health discourse in digital environments.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?
The research group GRAPE has collaborated with Professor Franccesca Coccetta in the past. In June 2023, for example, we organised a joint panel for the 32ND EUROPEAN SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL LINGUISTICS CONFERENCE (ESFLC2023), which took place in Vigo, Spain.
