Memories of the Shoah. Narrative Forms and Cultural Discourse in East-Central, South-Eastern, and Eastern Europe.
The conference focuses on investigating cultural productions (literature, cinema, comics, etc.) dealing with the memory of the Shoah in the geo-political-cultural area of East-Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, with the aim of strengthening pluralistic, interdisciplinary and transnational approaches. We identified tree heterogeneous perspectives through which the complexities of Holocaust memories in East-Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe can be explored: aesthetic, with film, documentary and comics “texts” as major research field, but also literature (Image, Sound, Word: Representations of Shoah); historical and cultural specificities (Shoah and Socialist Realism- What to remember and what was remembered); and finally, the perspectives of Other and the difficulties in dealing with a memory that necessarily intertwines with cross-disciplinary discourses, as issues of gender, sexual orientation but also systemic racism (The Other Subject: the Shaping of their Experiences).
