The Subject

Sala Berengo - Ca’ Foscari

The seminar will be a reflection on the term “subject”—a point of intersection and kinship among various disciplines such as philosophy, literary theory, and psychoanalysis. We will see that for psychoanalysis, the notion of the “subject” is indispensable, and we will try to understand why. We will also examine how the transatlantic displacement of a certain European thought (French Theory) led to the assimilation of Lacan with thinkers who move away from the concept of the subject (Deleuze, Foucault), based on a particular reading of structuralism. However, the subject remains essential, along with the notion of “form,” which must be understood not as a shell, but as flexibility and invention.
