Biography of Guido Cazzavillan

Guido Cazzavillan was an influential intellectual and an imaginative scholar in the fields of macroeconomics and economic development.

He began his studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, graduating in 1986, and obtaining his PhD at Yale University in 1994, under the supervision of professors Willem Buiter, Jean-Michel Grandmont and Christopher Sims. He taught Economics at Yale and in other important European universities.

At the end of the 90’s, he decided to go back to Venice and to his alma mater, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. First, he was Full Professor and then he went on to be Director of the Department of Economics. In 2001, he was appointed Director of Research in Economics, Ca’ Foscari’s economics journal published by Eslevier. He gave an important impulse to the journal’s reputation, combining the work of young, promising researchers and of major international economists.

Guido Cazzavillan’s scientific research was focused on the endogenous growth theory, on dynamic macroeconomic models and on development policies of economies in transition. His wide scientific production in those fields was published in top-level journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory, Review of Economic Dynamics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and Research in Economics.

He passed away unexpectedly on April 29th, 2014.
