CLA

Certificate of English language level

The CLA issues certificates which attest each English language level.

The result of the English language level test will be sent to the candidate at the email address given on enrolment.

Students should bring their own headphones and earphones to take the computer-delivered test. Any further information on how to reach the test centre will be emailed to candidates after enrolment has concluded.

To take the test candidates need the access credentials (username and password) used for enrolment and a valid document of identity. It is possible to register for the test from 10.00 on the first day until 12.00 on the last day of the enrolment period, or until places have been exhausted.

To obtain a language level certificate, it is necessary to take a computer test and a speaking test with a native speaker language expert.

The computer test is linear and follows the levels outlined by the European Framework of Reference: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 (CEFR self-assessment grid).

All candidates start the test at the level A1 set of questions.

Access to the next level is only possible if you answer at least 70% of the questions from the previous level correctly. The test lasts a maximum of 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The speaking test with the language expert takes place in groups of 3 candidates: the test lasts approximately 20 minutes. The result of the oral test is integrated with the result of the computer-based test.

Test format

Computer test

The computer-based test assesses: written comprension (reading), oral comprension (listening to audio and/or video clips) grammar and lexis.

It is a linear test and follows the levels outlined by the Common European Framework of Reference: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.

All candidates start the test at the A1 set of questions.

Access to the next level is only possible if at least 70% of the questions from the previous level are answered correctly.

The test has a maximum time of 2 hrs, 25 minutes and finishes when the candidate fails to attain the minimum score on the level being attempted.

Oral test

The oral test is with a native speaker language expert.

It is taken in groups formed by 3 candidates who have attained the same level on the computer test.

The test is about 20 minutes and assesses the candidate’s speaking skills answering questions at the appropriate level and interacting with the other candidates in discussion tasks set by the language expert.

The result of the oral test is integrated with that of the computer test. It can confirm the level  attained in the computer test, or it can attest a higher or lower level.
