Thesis and Historical Archive, CDE, other libraries in Venice

The Thesis Archive stores and manages degree and doctoral theses and historical documents and archival series of the University.
The degree theses are in electronic format from 2012 while the PhD theses from 2010. You can consult them in the thesis digital archive [ITA]. Form more information or if you want modify the access right, please contact archivio.tesi@unive.it.
Paper thesis and archival series consultation
The consultation service is open in Sala Archivio (Ca' Foscari) on the following days:
11 May 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm
19 May 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm
9 June 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm
21 June 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm
23 June 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm
30 June 2022, from 9 am to 1 pm
University and non-university members can access according to the procedures described on the Access general rules page. However, first it is essential to book the documents to be consulted, according to the following instructions:
- request the thesis in advance by writing to archivio@unive.it; wait for the confirmation of the thesis availability, which will be given within a few days (the theses are kept in a deposit far from the consultation site, from which they must be specifically taken);
- after receiving confirmation of the availability of the thesis, you have to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance according to the instructions you will receive;
- to access the library you must wear a mask. At the reception desk, you will be subjected to temperature check and you will have to show the confirmation of the booking.

The Historical Archive collects and preserves ancient and rare editions and the libraries of the earliest professors and rectors and the historical publications of the University, preserved in the following locations:
- Malcanton Marcorà (Special Archives, donations and bequests of professors and students)
- Ca' Bernardo (Ancient and Rare sections, collection of the General Library and of the University College Ca' Dolfin).
Consultation service
The consultation and loan services of Historical Archive is open in CFZ in the following days:
- Tuesday: 9 am - 2 pm
- Thursday: 9 am - 2 pm
University members and specific categories of non-university members can access according to the procedures described on the Access general rules page. However, first it is essential to book the documents to be consulted, according to the following instructions:
- request the Historical Archive documents in advance by mail to fondostorico@unive.it; wait for the confirmation of the volumes availability, which will be given within a few days (the books must be specifically taken from the deposits);
- after receiving confirmation of the availability of the books, you have to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance according to the instructions you will receive;
- to access the library you must wear a mask. At the reception desk, you will be subjected to temperature check and you will have to show the confirmation of the booking.

Archival series of Ca' Foscari University
- Students, from 1871, comprising: personal files, matriculation books, registers, reports of degree exams, degree diplomas, kardex; accompanied by headings
- Degree theses, from 1914; accompanied by catalogues (see Thesis Archive)
- Professors, from around 1928, including the personal files of professors
- Staff, from around 1928, including the personal files of the technical and administrative staff
- Governing Bodies, from 1901, including session minutes
- Rector’s Office, from 1920, including registers, inaugurations of academic years and various documents; also includes the Photographs sub-series
- Administration, from 1948, including accounting and various documents.

The CDE is one of the service points of the European Union Information Networks and promotes European integration among students and citizens by providing information on the EU and its policies. Its assets include around 120 contemporary periodicals and 4000 monographs (including the Official Journal of the European Union).

Library services
CDE provides its services only on reservation, in order to guarantee the safety of people. Users must have adequate protection and present their university badge for identification purposes. No replacement badges will be provided.
EasyPlanning
University members (research users and students) must book through EasyPlanning and soon also with MyUnive app.
Non-university members can access the libraries according to the Access general rules page.
Loan service
The service will be provided during the opening hours only by reservation.
Users must book through EasyPlanning and soon also with MyUnive app. Bibliographic data must be entered in the reservation. You can verify title, author and location of the books and check their availability in cerCa’ bibliographic resources portal.
To make a reservation select BALI Palazzo Cosulich.
The required books will be available at the loan desk.
There is no need to book the loan service if you have already booked for consultation: during your slot you can also request the loan.
Consultation service
The consultation service is available for all university members (research users and students) subject to reservation. The service will be provided during the opening hours, by booking through EasyPlanning and soon also with MyUnive app.
To make a reservation for the consultation service select BALI Palazzo Cosulich.
Photocopying service
During the consultation service, copy machines will be available for photocopies.
Return books
Books can be returned in the areas provided at the library entrance during the opening hours.
Online booking is not required.
If you have received an automatic return message, but you cannot go to the library, you can request an extension of the loan by writing to cde@unive.it.
Returned books are subject to a 3-day quarantine.

Downloads
Luigi Chiereghin library (Treviso)
Luigi Chiereghin library (Treviso) has reopened in the Treviso branch of the University.
The library is dedicated to law, political and social sciences, economic sciences and offers various services (loan, consultation, interlibrary loan and document delivery).
The opening hours of the library is: from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6.30 pm.
To access the library, you must make a reservation throught Affluences.

Other libraries in Venice
In Venice there are not only university libraries (Ca' Foscari and IUAV), but there are many other libraries, most of which are part of the following networks:
- Biblioteche del Polo SBN Venezia, 38 libraries in the Venice metropolitan area: they offer integrated services for residents, visitors, students, Italian or foreign researchers.
- Rete Biblioteche Venezia (RBV), 18 public reading and specialist libraries in the municipality of Venice (mainland, historic center and islands).
