Final exam procedure

The final exam consists in a written paper (Master’s thesis) on a theme agreed with the supervisor and discussion of the thesis before a Committee, in English. In the final exam, students must demonstrate the ability to use the sources and/or scientific literature in the chosen language of study.

Supervisor and co-supervisor

The subject matter of the final test must be agreed with the supervisor, who must be a professor from the Master’s course Environmental Humanities. The co-supervisor must belong to a different department from the supervisor. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by the course Teaching Board.

The thesis supervisor shall be responsible for giving the name of the co-supervisor to the Educational Programmes Office of the Department of Studies on Asia and Mediterranean Africa ( lauree.campuslingue@unive.it).

Final examination

The final examination consists in a written thesis, to be defended by the student before an evaluation committee. The thesis must be an interdisciplinary work of scientific value, focused on a topic agreed upon with a supervisor. The latter must be a lecturer or professor of the master’s programme. A co-supervisor with a complementary disciplinary background is assigned to the student prior to dissertation defence. The thesis is drafted and defended in English language and may be informed by the student’s internship experience.

To ensure the interdisciplinary nature of works produced by students, the latter will either take part in dedicated laboratories and/or be supported since an early stage of the work by co-supervisors with academic expertise complementary to that of the supervisor. This will also contribute to the development of a common language across the environmental humanities community, to define new visions and narratives for sustainability transformations.

A total of 21 credits (CFUs) are attributed upon positive completion of the final examination.

The final examination procedure is managed by the supervisor in coordination with the Educational Programmes Office of the Department of Studies on Asia and Mediterranean Africa.
