Dear Students, 

Students enrolled in the exam on 2 September 2024 must submit the written essay printed on paper by  12am on 2 September 2024 in the lecturer’s letterbox in the Malcanton Marcorà Building, Department of Humanities, University Ca' Foscari of Venice, Dorsoduro 3484/D - 30123   Venice.

Instructions on the essay are available in the syllabus and in the course folder in Moodle.

There are two typologies of exams: for students who participated in the visit to the Vagantivi headquarters in Murano and students who did not participate in this activity. 

1. FOR STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE VISIT TO MURANO

Written essay (2000wds)  reporting observations during the trip to the Association ‘I Vagantivi’ in Murano in the light of the issues discussed in the compulsory readings.

THE WRITTEN REPORT (maximum 2000wds) should not be a mere summary of the event students participated in (visit to the Vagantivi headquarters, Murano) but must contain a comment on the issues considered in the course. It is also an opportunity to comment on the methods of data collecting used (participant observation, note taking). The written report must be printed (Times New Roman font 12) with a 1,5 line spacing and 2cm margins. Direct or indirect quotes in the text must be followed by the bibliographic reference, namely, the indication of the author’s name, publication date, and page numbers in the text (author date:page) and completed with the full bibliographic references to all cited publications at the end of text (in alphabetical order).

2. FOR STUDENTS WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE VISIT TO MURANO, must submit a written essay (2000wds) answering the following question, in the light of  the issues discussed in the compulsory readings set for the course:

What characterizes a cultural anthropological approach to tourism? What are the major aspects of the tourist encounter studied by this discipline?  What methods does Cultural Anthropology use to study the tourist encounter? Answer these questions in relation to the issues discussed by the authors indicated in the exam program.

PLEASE NOTE: The written report must be printed (Times New Roman font 12) with a 1,5 line spacing and 2cm margins. Trovate le istruzioni per la stesura della relazione in una cartella in Moodle. Vi ricordo che l'argomento della relazione deve essere concordato con la docente.
