The Dialectics of Social Cognition: An Enactive Account of Labour

Aula Biral, 4th floor, Malcanton Marcorà - Dorsoduro 3484/D, Venice

Speaker: Andrea Gambarotto

Chair: Tommaso Guariento, postdoc ERC project AIMODELS

Enactive approach in cognitive science can help understanding the complexity of social cognition. The main argument is that this requires also integrating dialectical tools into the perspective of the embodied mind. Individualist models of cognition are challenged for failing to account for the inherently social and interactive nature of cognitive processes. Labour is analysed as an exemplary case of socially distributed and ecologically extended cognition.

Andrea Gambarotto is an FNR research fellow at the University of Luxembourg and chief researcher of the AUTONOMY project, which integrates dialectical and enactive approaches to cognition. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Dialectical Systems, a forum on biology, ecology, and cognitive science.
