Ambulances That Never Stop: Managing Health Emergencies in Beira, Mozambique

Sala CTR Regione Veneto

Dissemination of Research Results from the Project "UR-BEIRA – Strengthening Emergency Medical Services in the City of Beira" (Project Code: AID 012314/02/6UR-Beira)

The UR-BEIRA international cooperation project was initiated to strengthen emergency health services managed by local authorities in the Beira district, focusing on obstetric and pediatric emergencies. The project aims to reduce the population's mortality and morbidity associated with medical emergencies.

Throughout the project, efforts have been made to improve public access to emergency services provided by the Beira Central Hospital and its affiliated health centers. This was achieved by implementing a centralized emergency management model shared by district and national authorities. Special attention was given to ensuring access to services for pregnant women and children under 5.

The event will feature a presentation of research on the effectiveness and efficiency of a centralized emergency system, along with the project's main outcomes, including the opening of Mozambique's first operations center in May 2024. Additionally, discussions will cover the economic and organizational aspects of the UR-BEIRA international cooperation initiative.
