Discovering the River Port of Aquileia

Aula Baratto - Università Ca' Foscari Venezia

On December 2, in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), the "Discovering the River Port of Aquileia" event will occur in Aula Baratto starting at 4:30 PM. The event is organized by the Venice School of Management and the Department of Humanities at Ca’ Foscari, in collaboration with Fondazione Aquileia, Fondazione Radio Magica, Spoke 9 CHANGES - CREST (Cultural Resources for Sustainable Tourism), the Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

The river port of Aquileia, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Archaeological Area and Patriarchal Basilica of Aquileia, preserves the remains of one of the most significant Roman cities, showcasing Aquileia's historical importance through the Via Sacra and informative panels. Fondazione Aquileia is enhancing the port as an educational and cultural hub, focusing on environmental and social themes. For years, Ca’ Foscari University and Fondazione Radio Magica have collaborated on various outreach and inclusion initiatives, such as a communication plan, accessible publications, an animated video, and activities for schools and associations.

This event, part of Ca’ Foscari’s 2024 Public Engagement projects, is the culmination of a broader initiative aimed at improving accessibility to historic sites and promoting inclusion. The initiative has included events for primary and secondary schools, podcasts created with Radio Magica, and an accessible publication about the River Port of Aquileia, featuring simplified texts and user-friendly language curated by Libero Accesso.

The event will be held in Italian.
