Abstract:

Who are the residents of our cities and what rights do they have? By escaping an anthropocentric mindset, we will explore and imagine a world that goes beyond human stakeholders. We will trace, analyse, and politicize humans, the human-built environment, as well as non-human nature within an urban context. What interactions exist and how, if at all, can possible conflicts be solved?
In this workshop, we will leave the classroom, trace urban stakeholders, and describe their characteristics to challenge ourselves towards a new relationship between nature, tech, and people. What is nature? Where is tech? Who has a right to the city? Each of the three aspects will inspire more questions and new forms of co-existence.
This is a one-day event on 10 April 2025. We will provide tools, concepts, and methodologies to re-think and re-experience the urban. After this workshop, the students will be able to address what is known as the urban blind spot in environmental ethics.

This workshop is for students of environmental humanities interested in the rights of nature and more-than-human cities.
